Newcastle were in action last night in a Uefa Cup qualification match against FC Ventspils, and came away from Latvia with a 1-0 victory, putting them in the driving seat for the return leg at St James Park.
The team Glenn Roeder fielded last night was a strong one, and there is no doubt that he will play one very similar to that in the first Premiership game of the season.
Damien Duff is a major transfer coup for the Toon Army, and they will be hoping that he bolsters the attacking options on the Tyne dramatically, following the retirement of Alan Shearer, and the long-term injury to Michael Owen.
Starting XI vs FC Ventspils on 10th August:
GK: Given
DR: Carr
DC: Bramble (1 goal)
DC: Moore
DL: Babayaro
MR: Solano
MC: Parker
MC: Butt
MC: Emre (1 KC)
ML: Duff
Sc: Ameobi
Newcastle are in the hunt for a new striker, with names such as Obafemi Martins and Dirk Kuyt being thrown around. If they get one of these players to sign, expect a two-pronged attack from them this season.
How do you think Newcastle will perform this season?
Is Duff the man to inspire the Toon to winning some silverware?
