Owen to start with Crouch?

It looks like Michael Owen is going to start his first competitive game since new years day for England B versus Belarus at Reading on Thursday (25th May). With Rooney recovering from the dreaded metatarsal England fans will be hoping his partnership with Peter Crouch can build on the encoraging signs seen on the tour of USA last summer.

Probable England B team: James, Hargreaves, Carragher, Campbell, A Cole, Lennon, Jenas, Carrick, Downing, Crouch, Owen

Patriotic Plunge!

Patriotic fans are jumping the gun and plunging on England to win the World Cup in the belief that Wayne Rooney will be declared fit following his scan on Thursday and Michael Owen will show he is back to his best in the friendly against Belarus on the same day.

And after taking a rush of bets for England to win the World Cup at 7/1, Hills have been forced to trim their odds to 13/2 second favourites, as they face possibly their biggest ever football payout should England go all the way to victory.

"It would be the footballing equivalent of the worst day in bookmaking history - when Frankie Dettori rode all seven winners in a single day at Ascot and virtually demolished the industry on his own," said spokesman Graham Sharpe

Football Widow Strikes back!

FOOTBALL widow Angela Taylor is celebrating after winning £250,000 at the bookies. Fed up at being left at home by her partner and son every weekend, she got her own back with a successful flutter.

Angela, 43, studied form books and statistics then wagered £2,000 on a nine-event accumulator. She picked the winners and other team placings in the Premiership, Championship, League One, League Two, Scottish leagues, the FA Cup, the Scottish Cup and even the predicted the outcome of the FA Trophy.

Angela, of Wilmslow, Cheshire, waited until partner Austin, 53, and son Joe, 16, had gone off to see Manchester United play, then placed the bet over the phone.
